There is me (35 weeks pregnant with baby #1) and my fiance. We live in apartments that are based on 30% of our income a month which is 1400 so our payment each month is $421. We are currently struggling to keep up with our rent with a light bill tv bill car payment all that good stuff we are constantly running behind on our rent. l have done some research on Section 8 housing because our parents have told us to look into it but from what l understand is they will only pay what is greater than 30% of your income. An example from what l found on the net is if your income is $2000 and you wanna stay at a home for $900 you will have to pay 30%... $600 and the Section 8 will cover the rest so if this is true are we doomed forever to pay 30% of our income $421????? l do not have a job he does am l not right in saying that they will calculate that 3 people will be living off of his income so as to help us out or are we stuck at $421 no matter what? l could really use the help and any internet web sites would be of great help. Thank you.

Im not positive but l know the section 8 will pay based on your income and if your not working then it will just be your husbands income. l suggest you contact the section 8 office near you and speak to a worker that can help you to understand it and its rates where you live. It does not hurt to call them or stop by, that way you can decide if its really worth it for you! Good luck!

Maybe it is time to cancel the cable if you're barely meeting rent. Not being mean, but a place to live is more important than TV.

Once you have your baby and are able to work, you should check with the department of job and family services to see about getting help with child care so you can have more than one income. While it might be nice to be a stay at home mom, if you're struggling to make ends meet, you need a job.

l currently manager 131 section 8 units in Massachusetts, living in Alabama makes no difference since its the Department of Housing & Urban Development (which is a federal program) that mandates rules & regulations for section 8 affordable housing. Unfortunately, u will always pay a minimum of 30% of ur gross income which is considered ''reasonable''. l would cut out ''all that good stuff'' that u speak of & live within ur means. Maybe ditch the car with the car payments & just buy a car out right. Although, there r certain section 8 housing complexes that will pay for all of ur utilities. But that should not stop u from being more frugal with ur money.

After the baby is born & you're on ur feet u may want start working.

Something does not add up here.
l understand sec 8 thoroughly. However, when they add up a persons income they r to take the number of people living in the household, & whatever everyone is bringing in as income & then the 30%.

Also, sec 8 is to calculate the utilities in the equation as well.

Sec 8 has guidelines, apartments that r rent reasonable. You r earning $2000, yes ur rent should be near or around $600. That may change once u have the baby.

l would call ur workers supervisor for clarification. l had to do that a lot when l was getting familiar with the section 8 program. But be sure to get the supervisor & not the worker, l have noticed when new people start at the section 8 office, they r just as confused as u are.

l do not know what county u live in, so l can not grab more info for you. My workers l know could get me more info if l had known the county.

Section 8 will require you to work.

You have a child to support, and raise. Do not raise them to run around with their hand out begging for money.

Get a job, get that babies daddy out there with a better job and move into a normal neighborhood.
