l work with a woman who made a rude remark about someones disability, l spoke with our boss about it and then they spoke with the woman l work with. We work in an open room with two desks, and the tension in the room has been horrible. The woman lwork with has chosen to share her side of the story with fellow co-workers, l have not, l do not feel it is appropriate to discuss this with others. When l come into work in the morning l say good morning and when l leave l say have a good one, like l always have, she says nothing. Is this a hostile environment?
l ask because l do not trust this woman, l overheard her talking to someone saying that she will stay and told whoever she was speaking to, to not worry, that no matter when anyone else in the department, yes someone specific, does she will stay. this is what she said, l know she did it in front of me to bug me, and yes l am worried about my job, as this woman is the golden child to the manager of the company.

yep and she is angry you went to your boss but KUDOS for you. She had no right to talk like that to begin with. Mention her behavior to your boss again - you should not have to work in a hostile environment, and she needs to know to leave her angst at the door.

yes. she is being very rude-why be so evil about something someone else can not help-a disability? l have a learning disability and have an office job-and l would hate if someone said something about me. That woman you are dealing with is an evil person.

yes. make sure everything is documented with your HR manager, or rep. l would recommend using e-mail so that you can keep your copies. Just inform them of the situation in detail. That way it covers your butt if anything gets worse.

not really. unless she is especially rude to you, or is calling u rude names behind ur back, or is telling falso stories of u to coworkers & as a such ur boss or coworkers is treating u poorly then no its not a hostile environment. so l gues u will just have to go in do ur job & leave & ur boss will see u as more professional & maybe u will get the promotion. personally l would not have said something to ur boss. usually when my coworkers r saying bad thigs & sometimes it does involve race gender & disability well usually they arent actually racist or have a problem with the disability more that they r frustrated & just trying to blow off steam. so l let it be, ignore them do my job. l have found in past experience, that as long as l dont let them bother me, then the best course is to just ignore it, until it gets to be honestly hostile. good luck. The situation you are in is a hostile one. If anything your boss should be enforcing workplace diversity and should be talking with your co-worker. As for your co-worker going around and explaining her side of the story it is only going to cause more problems. If anything your boss should be putting a stop to all of this, especially since you talked with your boss about the whole situation.

Not exactly in the case because nothing was done really.

However, you do have a case for disability discrimination because her remarks has constituted to discrimination already.

You should tell your boss again to avoid a lawsuit.
