Does anyone here know how local hotels process room reservations apart from using the website and electronic solutions..More on like if they do it in paper, how do they do it?

l need this to be able to develop a database management system for a small family owned hotel. Please if you could help me, it would be great! Thanks a lot!

They have a calendar and a pen and write down the dates room booked and available

No we do not have a calender & write it in LOL jesus PMSl It would be very hard & tedious thing to do!

Coming from a family run hotel myself this is what we did.

We managed to get hold of large wide & long diary is like the big ones u see at wedding receptions & the guest books but larger than that.

We self ruled the pages with pencil lines & dates & the boxes were drawn big enough to hold all the info like names & how many people EG Miss Smith + 3 kids.
we had 16 rooms so 1-16 ran down along the page & the dates ran across the page. So for each date they stayed we would write the names in the boxes. The book would be ruled out for 6 months ahead.

As for The actual info like credit cards & payments, these were all hand written & held in a file. We would then go back & write paid in the reservation book.
l have seen this done for other small places & not just hotels.

There r of course now typed booklets & systems u can get hold of. A good Professional stationers store or stationary company should do them.
We also used these from time to time.

We also had printed booklets for invoices & receipts & petty cash.
All of which were bought from a stationary company. You can find these in a yellow pages or if u know ones that regular companies use, like ''Banner'' they can also help.
