I am in the process of trying to find a full-time job in the same field. l only took the temp assignment I am at now to get SAP and global corporate experience. I've been at this assignment for almost 2 years now and the lack of benefits, paid sick days/holidays and being highly underpaid for my profession is starting to weigh on me. Not to mention the company just got bought out by a bigger company and the global heads of my department have decided not to renew my contract for next year. So I am out of a job on January 1, 2009.

If l happen to get offered a new full-time job by next week, would it be alright for me to jump ship immediately even though l spent 2 years of a working relationship with folks at this company? Do l need to put in a 2 week notice to the recruiting firm?

Always give a two weeks notice u might need a reference someday! A job is a job.

l worked as a professional recruiter for 2 of the largest firms in the country. The answer to ur question is no, it is not alright to leave a temp job immediately. You never know what will happen in the future, & u do not want to burn bridges with ur recruiting firm OR ur current assignment. What may happen though, is u give ur notice & then ur contract work releases you. You still r able to walk away knowing professionally u did the right thing. No reputable company would ask u to leave a job without giving proper notice because they wo not want it done to themselves!

With any job, temp, part time, full time, no matter what you should Always give a notice to your employer about leaving the company. It does not look professional on your part to just quit, and it does not look good for future employers, who would be contacting SAP for references and such. Even if its only a 2 day notice, its better than nothing!

l have seen many situation were people leave early. Being a temp employee it is more easier too (as the direct company regulations do not apply).

l say a few days will be sufficient in your case . Leaving the next day is not advisable.
