l lost my purse, and consequently, my SS card was inside. l am not 18 yet, but l wanna try to protect my credit as much as possible. Someone suggested to call some credit unions to flag my accounts, but there are so many and l have no idea where to begin! l filed a police report in two cities in which the purse may have been lost, so l have proof of loosing it.

Not credit unions, credit reporting agencies.

There should not be a credit file on u if u have yet to turn 18.

The name of the three companies that should be alerted, & u should check to see if u have a credit report with them too; Experian, TransUnion & Equifax

You r entitled by law to receive free credit reports, from each bureau (agency), once a year.

You can obtain the reports in one of two ways:

http://annualcreditreport.com the government sanctioned site, u may need a parent to help you, & like l said u should not have a credit report because u r a minor, but l would ask for the reports anyway. This is free, & there is NO reason for u to buy the FICO scores, or any other product, just get ur reports.

Or, u can send a written request to each agency, through the mail, just ask for ur free annual copy of the report. The mailing addresses r on the above site, or u could visit each reporting agency site & get the address there.

Do not forget to contact the social security adminstration to get a new social security card. You can download the form from their website, or visit an office-look in the phonebook under Federal Government, Social Security Administration http://ssa.gov
