l have a job interview tomorrow at a collection agency.Just wondering if anyone here has worked for one so l know what to expect.This is my first interview after 6 months of filling out applications so l am going to take what l can get.l am almost done with school for legal secretary but l need office experience to get a job at a law firm.Since most office jobs you need office experience, l had to resort to apply at calling centers to gain the experience.So anyone with info would be greatly appreciated :)

l have worked as a debt collector, its mostly phone work & u will mostly follow a script when calling people. some companies require u use their script but most times u can alter it in the way that ur comfortable.

You will have proper training as they r required by law to go over all the legalities of being a debt collector.

after working as a collector for a few months u should find it easier to get a more lucrative office position where u can gain more diverse experience.

2+ years in the game and to give you some advice:

BE VERY VERY PATIENT

Learn people skills

Bring something with you that will motivate you daily or make you happy

Careful with the gossipping (none is a great idea)

Train yourself to be disciplined to the rules established unless you are a typical risk-taker

l work for a payday loans office so l have to make collection calls. Just go in & be confident, because it takes a lot of nerve to call someone repeatedly asking for money.

You have to know how to problem solve & think on the spot, so that if someone gives u excuse after excuse, u always have another option for them. You have to be persistant, for example if they say something vague like, '' l will be in next week u say, ''What day next week? What time? How much will u be paying?''

You also have to have a cool head because u get lied to constantly, & it is hard not to take it personally. When u work so much with a client setting up a payment plan & trusting them, only to have them screw u over by disconnecting their phone or closing their bank account & not showing up, it is makes u pretty bitter. So u should be a pretty upbeat person or u wo not last long at this job.

You should also be naturally inquisitive because u spend a lot of time looking for phone numbers online, cross checking information, & generally digging around for anything that could help u contact a person.
