l have written out a rough outline of my personal statement but i'm really scared it is not good enough!
l have not really got any achievements apart from my subject grades. For example, l do not do D of E, and i'm not involved in any outside school stuff like youth clubs etc......so i'm really worried this will hold me back! Will it?
This is roughly what l put in my personal statement.
1. Saying why l wanna do the nursing course.
2. Talking about the courses l am doing at the moment e.g Health and Social Care
3. Talking about the work experience l have had which is in a nursery and a residential home.
4. My hobbies....this is reading and keeping fit. (I am really scared that these are rather weak and boring hobbies...i did however relate them as best l could to nursing saying that l like to read because it enables me to learn more about people, and that l like to keep fit because it is very challenging. Nursing is challenging thus ties in here kind of).
5. I am not really sure how to round it off.


What do you think of it?

l have been looking at examples of statements on the internet, and was literally blown away. They are all so good. l feel so depressed now. Mine sounds terrible in comparison.

You can only write the truth! A friend of mine was saying l should embellish my CV here & there & was advising me to add more 'charitable' contributions but l refused.

In my view l had sufficient experience for the job & if they wanted someone who attempted to save the planet then that was not me.

Do not try to be something you're not but maybe try & work what u do have to ur advantage like the part about keeping fit, it might help to say that as u r looking to progress into a profession which advocates health & fitness u try to practice what u preach .

Now, to answer ur question. Why does anyone go into a caring profession? To help others of course. Do u have any experience? Think hard. What about the ways in which u have cared for ur parents, grandparents, sick dog or some other pet? Did u have fascination with ER or some other hospital, nursey type show & dream that was u making a difference in peoples lives?

What experience is ur health & social care course giving you? What r u learning that will make u a suitable candidate for a nursing course?

Keeping fit is good. As a nurse u will be involved in helping people regain their health or maintain their health or just making them comfortable. Which ever way u look at it u aim to improve the quality of peoples lives even if they r terminal. Reading is good. Lots of nursing now is evidence based through research. So, u got a headstart there. A fit mind in a fit body.

This course is the beginning of a lifelong learning experience. An excellent way to begin a professional career. Remember what l said about evidence-based? Google that - evidence-based nursing, medicine, nursing research. The fact that u like to learn & have an enquiring mind is a good start. That is part of the package of being a good nurse.

The other are excellent, except for that obvious one of course! I'd just like to add to what has already been said before, that you will need to really sell yourself too, tell them why YOU would make a terrific nurse. Your enthusiasm will stand out.
