I am starting my own cleaning business and l need a simple, fun, catchy name that is not too cheesy.l will be offering other services such as minor home improvement, pet services, gardening, etc. etc. so the name does not necessarily need to be ''cleaning'' related.

The best way to choose a name is to use words that pertain to ur industry or field of expertise. This way ur company name tells the customers what it is u do. And its best to limit this to just 2 words at the most as the company name. Then u can put more of a description in the sub title of the name.

Names like Beth is Cleaning Service never stick nor last as the customer is left wondering.. what does Beth clean? Offices? Homes? Cars? Planes? RV's? Yards? Alleys? If a customer has to guess, they will move onto another company. Customers need to be told what u do so they r willing to come to you.

Here r a few examples:

Home Depot: its a depot of items for ur home
Wal-Mart: its a mart within walls
Jiffy Lube: ur car gets lubed in a jiffy
Burger King: we r the king of burgers

Most company names just seem like company names to us till we break down what they really are. Like Wal-Mart, everyone knows that name but its just a simple saying of, hey. we r a mart (meaning a place that sells many items) inside of some walls. Such a simple name & meaning, yet tells the customer what they are.

The best way to come up with a name like this, is to sit & list out all words that pertain to ur industry. Then by scanning the list, pick 1 or 2 of the words & make that ur company name.

Sit down, make the list & over days of thinking, combining & adding catchy sub titles to the logo name. Make up a list of about 10-20 company names. Then share those around by email & have friends, family, strangers pick their top 3 choices. Not just cause its cute or such but because it told them what u do as a service.

l did this 10 yrs ago & actually my company name was 2 names that got spliced into 1 by several of those l showed my list too. That name has stuck & no one has had to guess what l do. And having such a name has made it easier to advertise, for people to remember me, as its catchy, unique, yet speaks what l do. l used the same process a few years ago to name my 2nd company as well.

Once u get ur list made up, it is helpful to go through each name on GoDaddy.com to see if the dot com is even available. Because if its not, u might as well scratch that name off the list. Because u will want a dot com as its a common item now along with having an ad in the yellow pages or such. And its easy to do as all u do is get a $10 a yr dot com from GoDaddy. You get free email with that & free forwarding. Then go get a blog for free. Set it up & then link the dot com (under forwarding option) to the blog & there u go. A web site, dot com & dot com email for $10 a yr. Great way to save as a small biz. You can even make the email name a catch all email. Meaning whatever word is in front of in the email, it will still come to the 1 address. Meaning u can put on ur site multiple email account names to give the impression u r a larger company than u really are.

Years ago it was just me as my company. l made up a web site & really went to town on it & gave it the illusion l was a large company but never lied mind you. Customers would choose my services due to that as the others looked like back yard mechanics. Plus l would show up in a clean truck, uniform, matching biz card to my site, etc. Even had a few customers ask how they can get a franchise as well. l would just laugh & have to tell them it is just me.

Your business name should tell people what u do right off. And ur business card has to gain their attention & tell them what u do within 3 seconds. That is the rule of thumb.
