There is no excuse for the number of jobs in healthcare to increase 500% in ten years, while the population has only increased maybe 25% in that time frame.
l am convinced that these healthcare jobs , particularly the lower echelon ones , are being created to ''make work'' for people who have lost their jobs to outsourcing. The factory worker is now the healthcare worker.
It is nice that these people are getting trained and a skill and a decent wage, but guess what? It is the reason behind unsustainable healthcare price inflation.
Similarly with all the government jobs that have been created out of thin air to absorb all the wellfare recipients who have been forced into the workforce. These people are still on welfare, but now they sit behind a desk to ''earn'' their money. It is actually costing the tax payer far far more than foodstamps did.
Why do governments say that protectionism against unfair trade with china distorts labor markets, but these same governments think it is ok to distort labor markets with the disruptive forces mentioned above?

Besides, this baby boom thing is a myth.There were more babies born in the 80s and 90s than the original baby boom.These baby boom ''echo'' people, plus the MILLIONS of immigrants who swarm into our country every year since the 70s, has MORE THAN MADE UP for these mythical baby boomers.
Baby boom is constantly used as an excuse for the baby boomers themselves to horde and steal from the younger generations.These selfish , piggish people are trying to take everything with them to the grave and leave the rest of us their scraps and residue.

While it is true that our overall population growth is far behind the growth on healthcare jobs, u r not talking about the right population. Baby-boomers (those born l think between 1945 & 1965) r a vast polulation & is growing by millions a year. As people age they need physical therapists, occupational, speach, respiratory as well. While the aged increasingly require hospitalization they needs aids to do the grunt work (change beds, etc) RNs to look after their basic needs & MDs to cure their ills. In fact the need for healthcare workers for baby boomers is growing faster that the industry can keep up with.

People are living longer in general and living longer with chronic diseases, so the % of the population that are seniors is growing. And l guess you've never heard of baby boomers? The oldest gang from this group are in their 60 is now, hence the need for more medical care.

Trust me, they are not just making up jobs for people to do. If you were a nurse, you'd know that. There is such a shortage of nurses that they are far overworked. There is just not enough people.
