Hi, l get all of my council tax paid and 90% of my rent paid because my husband is on incapacity and l am now on maternity leave. l have just been awarded £117 a week maternity allowance (as l cannot claim SMP) and l am just wondering, will this affect my council tax and housing benefit? will l have to pay more of my council tax and rent because l am now getting £117 a week? If so, l cannot see the point in me claiming maternity allowance if they are just going to take it back off me. Can anyone help as l dont know a lot about benefits!

u should inform the council what u are getting so they can tell u. once u have had the baby u will be entitled to child tax credit and child benefit which l dont think affects yr housing or council tax benefit and l think having a child will give u more entitlement anyway.
